What is a ROMpler?
A ROMpler is a synthesizer that uses sampled waveforms, stored in ROM (read-only memory) as the basis of their synthesis method — which is usually following an Analog-Subtractive structure with Oscillators feeding VCAs, VCFs, and EGs. They can be desktop units or rack-mounted units, but are mostly found with a keyboard layout.
